: Honolulu Magazine, Etsy and Hawaii :

I am so happy to announce that my sister Hillary is in the March issue of Honolulu Magazine. For those of you abroad, Honolulu Magazine has been Hawaii's magazine since 1888.

So here's a little bit about Hillary:

Hillary is 23 years old and started sewing in 2008. She made her start sewing by hand, little cupcakes made of felt fabric. In order to sew more efficiently she decided to purchase her first sewing machine. She says that she encountered difficulty sewing a handbag with the pattern and directions it came with, so that's when she decided she would come up with her own designs and patterns.

Soon as she was spotted carrying her handbags, orders kept coming in from family and friends, who would often stop by the house and go through her fabrics and place their orders. Since then, she has brought her bags to craft fairs around Kauai and online at her Etsy shop.

Hillary finds inspiration from everything cute and loves to go fabric shopping. Once an idea is in her head she then moves onto newspaper where she works her ideas into a pattern with a pair of scissors. It takes about 4 hours to sew a "Miss Hillary" bag. The name of her Etsy shop: Miss Hillary, came from her work with children, as they would call her Miss Hillary at school.

In the future she hopes to expand to children's clothing and dresses for women.

Hillary lives on Kauai with her husband Pili and their two dogs, a female Shitzu named Mija and female Pomeranian named Naya who has two pups: Kitty and Zoey. She works with children and spends her free time creating and sewing in her bedroom. Her favorite color is pink. Another fun fact that I wanted to add about my sister Hillary is that we have identical handwriting and that most times I have to look twice to tell our handwriting apart.

Hi there! Photography and art featured on this blog, unless where noted, came from my camera and were made or styled by my hands. You may not use my photos for profit or on commercial websites, but we might be able to work something out with a dozen chocolate macarons, and a juicy deal. Do not remove my watermarks or copyright markings from my photos (please see previous sentence). I won't bite, well unless you infringe on my copyright. But really, send me an email, I'm pretty nice. The snail mail on my blog includes my mail or the work from other artists and pen friends. I do my best to give everyone credit. But, in the case where I have missed the proper credit please contact me to address it. If you would like to re-blog or pin any of my original works please be the awesome person that you are and give me a shout out a.k.a. proper credit, and link it back here. Speaking of links, I do on occasion link out to other sites, however I am not responsible for the content you find on those sites. Sometimes clicking on a link I’ve provided may be a link to a site that will give me a small commission if you buy something from them. Which means that I might get paid (hopefully not in gum) if you click on that link, whoo-hoo. Reason why I’m telling you is because I want to be honest with you and frankly, because it’s illegal not to. That said, I promise to use any affiliate commissions earned for good cause: like stationery hauls and lattes. Thank you kindly, Merissa
