Pretty blossoming tree spotted: Lihue, Kauai

I flew home to Kauai for a few days last week and my sister Dannica and I were in Lihue running errands when I spotted this gorgeous yellow blossoming tree peeking out from aside a building. We didn't have time to spin back around because my baby niece was in the car and she was very unhappy in her car seat. With the tree still stuck in my head, I returned the next day with my other sister Hillary, armed with our cameras and checking the tree out from our car, we got the chance to photoshoot the gorgeous yellow blossoming tree! I later learned from a friend that this tree is called the Golden Shower or in plant terminology: Cassia Fistula. And being that it's now Summer and the weather is exceptionally warm, Golden Shower trees are blossoming here in Hawaii.

And what's so weird is that I've lived here all my life and I've never noticed these trees and how beautiful their colors and blossoms are until now. I believe it has to do with photography and what I learned from my awesome photography professor and the other great art professors at my community college, who taught me (whether I was aware of it or not) to LOOK...I mean really LOOK and absorb the sights around me, to be aware, and to take notice of the small things. I use my ability to see for recording and interpreting that in my figure drawings and paintings, and I'm now using that same ability with my camera. What I learned in figure drawing and painting is also useful in my photography. Maybe a duh moment for some, but a yipee moment for me :D

  1. stunning color- amazing -thank you!

  2. leslie: Nature is amazing! I'm glad you like them :) Thank you so much for your comment!

  3. Wow! These look so perfect they are like paintings.

  4. Cookie Cutter: Thank you for your comment. Isn't it beautiful? The yellow blossoms caught my eye while we were driving to the bank. I don't think anyone tends to it as it's behind the wall on a slope, but it sure looks like it's doing well for itself. I also lots of bumblebees and honeybees buzzing around its blooms. :)

  5. Merissa, this is beautiful. You need to come downand photo the shower tree's here.

  6. Miss Vegas: Me and my camera would love to come to Vegas to photograph everything in sight! Hehe.

So happy you paid me a visit. Mahalo!
