Hanalei, Kauai

So the other day I came back from my 6 day stay on Kauai. I took my Nikon with me for some black and white photos since I still had film left. However, I can't see the results until I return to the dark room. This set of pics were taken in Hanalei on the north shore of the island. I had to see the pier and the bay, that place is so beautiful...and also get some shaved ice from Shave Ice Paradise! The flavor I had was called "Dragons Blood"...a mixture of watermelon, strawberry, and coconut. Despite the name, it was soooo yummy! I added coconut pineapple ice cream at the bottom and a cream cap...and also 10 lbs. no joke.

I wish I had gotten the chance to swim and lounge on the beach that day but Hillary wanted to go home...she waited in the car the whole time..as you can see, she's not in the photo..I think she doesn't like the sun because she's outdoors everyday at her work, so every chance she gets she stays out of the sun's rays. I wished I had gotten a tan, my family thinks that I've gotten too pale from the city, Honolulu..haha. True, while living on Kauai we were outdoors at the beach, river, in the mountains, swimming, hiking, riding bike, paddling canoe, and now I do none of the sort. I've become accustomed to air conditioning and staying indoors. Anyways, back to Hanalei, so this pier is at Hanalei Bay, and I remember camping there when we were younger and all of the kids were swimming and jumping off of the pier, Isaiah had his brow slashed while another kid jumped too near to him while he was still in the water..blood and ocean..not a good mix while you're swimming, unless you want to be shark bait..and if you see Isaiah in person and look at his eyebrow you can still see that scar. We also had canoe races at Hanalei Bay and the water would be just turquoise and clear..sometimes not a good thing when you're in the deep water..lol. It's a great feeling just doing nothing except relaxing on the sand the whole day and being on a beach that's not overcrowded like Waikiki Beach..that place is crazy! Nowadays, Waikiki Beach is not a real Hawaiian experience..you gotta go to the outer islands for a real one!

  1. Aloha Merissa,
